Friday, April 3rd 7:30am
Good morning and happy 1st Friday of April! It's quite a different story to start our XC ski day with the latest storm surge retreating in the rearview, with stunning blue-bird skies and an abundance of spring sunshine slated for the coming days. We have one frosty start with air-temps coming in at 16* on our way to the mid-40's. This morning's snow is measuring a coldest-of-the-season -15*C/5*F and is starting with a slight squeak and just a bit of friction in places. Our stellar groom-stars packed the latest powder overnight into pristine and flowy XC ski trails; the tracks are deep and defined and cord is perfectly consistent. Our early morning ski indicates excellent compaction with that "new-snow" buttery feeling underfoot. Skate edges will carve nicely, and classic glide will only improve as the morning marches on. Expect some softening to occur in the afternoon, so move to the south side trails (Upper Devecka's to Woody's return) for later day skate. Team groom reports refreshed skate corduroy and classic tracks prepped throughout the Upper Trails, Screamer, Easy Up, Blue Jay's, Dan's, Upper Devecka's, Easy Back, Zig Zag, and Woody's Way albeit minus the west end. The Lower Trails (black trails), Rich's Range, Waterfall and Todd Creek are currently closed and will require more snow to reopen this season. Looking for a slower paced hike among freshly flocked mountain pine and hemlock? Nordic has you covered! We offer an array of snowshoe sizes in our rental shop and Yellow trail is beckoning for adventure.
