April 2nd Grooming Report

The Final Edition!

For another season the Nordic circle has been fulfilled, and has been done so in a spectacular fashion this year. The few hundred acres of Wyoming we call Trail Creek has once again been successfully  spurred into becoming a locus of health, racing, camaraderie, youthful empowerment, and simply a place to have fun.  While the rich environment ranging from lichens and conifers to weasels and moose facilitates this mission, the true driving force are all the people who believe that these few hundred acres can make the world a little better place and support the mission with their time, resources, or by simply enjoying the skiing and making themselves healthier; Thanks!

Looking back on the season, once again the initiation of full winter seemed to take forever.  The amazing extravaganza of the three day Johnny Curtis/Betty Woolsey/IMD Opener/Wyoming High School meet was in jeopardy of not even happening although just enough snow materialized to allow the hundreds of participants to enjoy what we have to offer.  The final day of racing was when the snow kicked in, and winter was fully upon us.

January brought record numbers of JHSC skiers from kindergartner to senior citizen with endless days of lovely midwinter snow.  A fantastic Moose Chase highlighted February and March featured our racers taking their hard earned skills to national competitions with impressive results.  All that winter snow managed to stick around for a grand finish to the season with the four days of racing at the International Spring Series event.

Today’s grooming was a final rework of the race course for the final day of the International Spring Series races.  Racing should wrap up by early afternoon, so if you have a little time, come on out and enjoy the race course.  Grooming in the woods wrapped up on the 31st, but reasonable skiing should be possible on the National Forest trails for some time to come.

The last adventure skier laying tracks in the woods could possibly take place a month from now, so while you will probably begin to focus on your running shoes, bicycle, or fishing rod, keep your skis handy for that one last great Nordic ski.  Until some wintry November day when we get to do this all over again, best wishes.

Groomer’s choice for today is Trail Creek
