SHORT VERSION: ~~--7.9 °C @ 9:00 AM -~~ -3.9 °C @ 10:30 AM Absolutely excellent skate skiing. Good classic skiing on trails trackset within today.

LONG VERSION: Snocat & skidoo/ginzoo grooming & some tracksetting this morning. We are losing a little bit of snowpack each day, so the depth on many of the trails is getting below the depth we can safely run the snocat, without risking wrecking the trail, and damaging the snowcat. Think dirt and rocks only a few inches below the surface of the snopack. Tracks are still holding up OK on most trails on the flats, and much of the dog trails.

Groomers Classic Choice: Stadiums, Super Sprint, Nite Rider. 2nd classic choice: Pine Flats & Greenway Corridor (If you start on Pine Flats and ski to Thumbs Up Junction, then Greenway Corridor, you will have only day old tracks all the way).

Groomer's Skate Choice: Race Maze, Hi 5 groomed up very nicely, and are even more amazing today than they were yesterday.

NOURISHMENT: If you missed those delectable Bill's Brewski Burgers yesterday, don’t make the same tragic life choice twice: don’t miss lunch today!

As usual, B & E Good Eats is back in action and ready to feed the masses upstairs in the main lodge from about 11:00-ish until roughly 2:30-ish… or longer if everyone shows up hungry (which, let’s be honest, they absolutely will).

And here’s the perk of being part of the club: members get free coffee because at this point caffeine is basically a membership benefit… and possibly a survival requirement. Come hungry. Leave happy. Possibly loosen your belt one or more notches. Looking ahead to tomorrow: A decision will be made early tomorrow morning as to whether B & E Eats will be onsite for tomorrow, Monday. Decision based on attendance/patronage today, weather, snow, temperature, yah-da ya-da. The usual factors!

We’ll sort ourselves into groups based on ability & preferred routes: from “pleasant glide through the woods” to “I remember doing this faster in 1987.” This is not a lesson nor a guided tour. Just a friendly chance to explore new trails or revisit your old favourites.

Expect to be out for about 1.5 hours, give or take a scenic pause or a discussion about whose knees are forecasting tomorrow’s weather. There’s no official after-social, but feel free to bring a snack or beverage & relax in the Upper Lodge afterward to swap trail stories, admire the scenery, & confirm that everyone made it back alive. TRAIL CLOSURES: Well folks, it’s that magical time of year again, when the wind decides the trails need a good spring cleaning and kindly redistributes sticks, branches, and mystery debris across every high-elevation path. Right now it’s a classic shoulder-season cocktail: plenty of icy patches (some perched on delightfully steep side slopes), & the occasional teaser of bare ground just to keep things interesting. So for everyone’s safety, & to keep the trail grooming team from collectively losing what little is left of their sanity, (not much), the higher-up trails are now closed: Up the Creek (past Old Biathlon Loop), Hickory Wing, Furthur Up the Creek, Cranbrook Climb (uphill from Northern Crossing), Old SawMill Loop, Lynx, Raven’s Col, Birch Bend, Ridge Runner.

Of course, if Mother Nature decides to drop another serious 15 cm+ snow dump, we’ll happily fire up the grooming gear and pretend winter just started all over again. Actually, the forecast for tomorrow looks pretty promising. But then, you know, its a forecast.

OOPS, ANOTHER TRAIL CLOSURE: Terus Construction is doing some excavation work in the area that has already been cleared, so the section of dog trail that goes thru the recently cleared area is now closed. Underdog still connects to Upper Dogonit for a Loop, and Top Dog connects to Sun Dog, and thence to Moon Dog. IF we happen to get a whack of snow, we might be able to open it again. We need something white & deep to cover the excavator tracks.
